3D Models and ID

It was never an easy task to visualise how the new flat would look like by just looking at the floorplan...

First reaction that came into our mind was :
"It's such a tiny flat that cost a bomb!"

A typical layout of the furniture was given by HDB... seemed rather straightforward? But it is still tough to visual on a 2D plan
A typical layout with furnitures furnishing

We decided to create a 3D modelling of our new unit... works began in Feb 2010 when Hwee found a nice little application that does simple 3D modelling and rendering...

After months of going through tons of magazines and websites for ideas... we marked all the nice ideas referencing against what we wanted... bits & pieces we produce this:
Step 1 - Importing our floorplan

Constructing our first wall of the planterbed
More walls...

Done with most of the external walls, left the last piece...

Tada! All the external walls are finally constructed!!!

Next, all internal walls are added

Steps 2 - Create opening for all the windows.
Lots of accuracy required

Doors are also fitted
Steps 3 - Laying of floor tiles, timber strips, wall tiles, etc

Skirtings for living room and bedrooms

Step 4 - Adding in Project Title

To make it more personalise, we add our nick as well... :)

Step 5 - Adding fixtures and furnitures...
this entire process is never-ending as designs
and ideas kept flowing in our head...
we spent 1 month doing up the fixtures
and furnishing... still in progress.

Next we will share some close-up working pictures of the entire house, looks cool but it had not been render for a more photo-like pictures yet... just the working view:

A close-up view of the Planterbed (with handsome and beauty standing there... Ha)

South West view - Bed Rooms and Planterbed
West view - Master Bed Room

North view - Air-con ledge and Service yard

Here's a walk through to some of the interiors of the house:
A rough idea of the study room, a few other designs still flowing in our head... this is just for rendering sake so a temporary rough design...

Hwee had always wanted to apply wall stickers to our new house, wall paper seemed outdated nowadays? We wanted a blast-up print of photos that we had taken... it is more personalized, so this idea came and we are still trying out all the different visuals.

A striking green of a fun casual wedding photo of us
(blend in with the greenery planterbed next to the living room?)

Or shall we change it to sepia?

  1. It will be smaller than you think. The HDB sample layout they show you have scaled down the size of bed and furniture.

I just got my keys at Punggol Vista and its not a joke.

  2. Yeah... we are aware of this... show flats are always deceiving, just like this fanciful visual. We are using scale program to do the dimensioning, all furnitures we wanted will be scaled to the floorplan. It's relly tiny... that explains our title... haha! Thanks iboey.

  3. Hi,

May I know wat's the program you use to draw the 3D view? I'm a fellow punggol arcadian and hope to use the program to draw out something like that too

  4. Hi Xueming, it's "Sweet Home 3D Free 3.2" @ http://www.sweethome3d.com

There's 2 platform, online and install locally on your computer, which we advise the latter.

We can share more tips and info along the way... cheers!
